The theme of
the Vth CPLOL-LCSTL Congress is: EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE : a
challenge for Speech and Language Therapists
(CPLOL-LCSTL is the Permanent Liaison Committee for Speech and Language
Therapists and Logopedists in Europe)
This theme was deliberately chosen as a challenge we
must confront.
There
are various reasons why we need evidence of the effectiveness of intervention. No-one
in the profession would dispute the importance of asking which is the most
appropriate intervention for the best outcome for each patient/client. Health care purchasers increasingly want to
have outcome data before allocating money to services. Patients and clients and
their representative organisations are telling us what they expect from
therapy.
There
are at present only limited numbers of evidence-based studies about clinical
effectiveness in the fields of speech, language and hearing therapy Theoretical
models which could take account both the concern for efficacy and of
individuality of client and therapist are still being developed.
This
congress wants to present examples of evidence based practice, and to explore
in various specialities and traditions the potential scope and the limitations
of this concept within everyday practice.
This
call for papers or posters is an invitation to speech and language
therapists/logopedists and to other professionals to present their own clinical
experience and outcome studies in order to develop the effectiveness of our
interventions. Papers can be submitted for presentation at a parallel session,
or as a poster presentation, or both.
The
organisers intend that this will contribute to the development and promotion of
Speech and Language Therapy in Europe.
